Whales or Mermaids?-A story to inspire unwritten by me

10.05.11

October 3, 2011
A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and b…eautiful woman. The caption was “This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?”

The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way:

“Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness.
They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia.
They sing incredibly well and sometimes even are on cds. They are impressive and dearly loved animals, which everyone defend and admires.

Mermaids do not exist.

But if they existed, they would line up to see a psychologist because of a problem of split personality: woman or fish?
They would have no sex life and could not bear children.
Yes, they would be lovely, but lonely and sad.
And, who wants a girl that smells like fish by his side?

Without a doubt, I’d rather be a whale.

At a time when the media tells us that only thin is beautiful, I prefer to eat ice cream with my kids, to have dinner with my husband, to eat and drink and have fun with my friends.

We women, we gain weight because we accumulate so much wisdom and knowledge that there isn’t enough space in our heads, and it spreads all over our bodies.
We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated.
Every time I see my curves in the mirror, I tell myself: “How amazing am I ?! ”

Marinating in Magnetism

10.22.10

I often post on my face-book page that I’m “marinating in magnetism”.  So many people have asked me what this means, I think it’s time that I explain not only what it is to metaphorically marinate, but also the attraction of magnetism and its forces: Your energy is a magnetic force which you can think of as a boomerang. You throw it out there with intention and it will whip back to you, sometimes with full force.  Magnetism isn’t just something you have to born with,  it is an energy to attract and influence good things. Counting Weeds-Getting the root of it

I learned a lesson one day when I saw some weeds in my lawn and did something completely out of character for me;   I know that people who know me aren’t going to believe this, but I actually started pulling the weeds.  Now, if you expect that it will ever happen again, it won’t.

I started with the small weeds, knowing that I was probably going to have to have some sort of tool for the larger ones.  This was an impromptu defoliation after all, and I really didn’t want to dampen my enthusiasm by having to spend time wading through  my garage to find something to dig with.   The first weed I pulled produced just what I expected, a small weed and a small root that was easy to extract.  The second weed produced the same.  Don’t begin to worry about me at this point….I didn’t grow so attached to this experience that I numbered my weeds. It just happened. Read the rest of this entry »

What is your true North?

08.03.10

compass

I read that in the book “Message in a Bottle” years ago, and have been pondering it ever since.
What a deep expression! What is North to us that makes us all know exactly what the author meant when he had his main character say it in a letter to the woman he loved? Really a metaphor for where you automatically head towards in your heart.

For my son’s scouts a compass to complete the gear required for him to go on a camping trip with his Boy Scout troop, his uncle telling him how the compass works gave me a glimpse into that expression.  “You see,” He explained to him, “all traveling, all navigation since man first discovered that fixed star in the night sky is relative to North.  North is the constant, the beacon, the plumb line by which we weigh all decisions about which direction we are going to turn, or whether we’re going to continue going as we were.” Read the rest of this entry »

Create Your Own Economy-The E word

7e37e797cb65c18eThe economy . . .With such an unproductive conversation starter, the only possible result can be a downward spiral that has me feeling worse than I did when I decided to talk about it (AGAIN!)  Where else could the conversation go from there but right down straight to hell without the hand-basket?  Not to mention what it does for those of us who are in business for ourselves: how can I generate excitement and possibilities when all I’m focusing on is what is going on with the economy? It can feel like sinking in quick sand sometimes. I can’t help but to think of the  old commercial with the the lady;”I’ve fallen and I can’t get up”. Read the rest of this entry »

04.23.10

imagesHave you ever wondered why some people are successful in business and some aren’t? Have you ever thought to yourself,”What do they have that I don’t”? Try looking at the their spirit.Usually, authenticity shines through. Want that same spirit? Here are some new ways to look if you are willing. See what you can see in the spirit of business. The spirit of success can be broken down to one or all. It starts with passion.

Passion is contagious!

Have you ever met someone that is so in line with who they are and what they do? It almost like when you meet them you want to say “I would have picked this for you” ,or“that is so perfect!” There excitement is contagious and you want to jump on whatever train they are riding. This is what you want to be for people” Keep your business SIMPLE. There are a lot of people who would love to share your products and/or earn a living from what you share! Be a magnet, people with automatically be drawn to you. No one is attracted to cheese ball salesmanship. Read the rest of this entry »

Facing Things Head On-Moments of Impact

02.23.10

Have you ever tried to plug in “no where near where I want to be” in your navigation system?  Odd question with an important thought point.  I doubt it would take you anywhere.  If you got a little more specific and plugged in a destination it would take you there.  What if you didn’t know where you wanted to go or where you were supposed to end up?  Possibly intuition would take over and eventually guide you. I look at intuition as the voice of navigation now.Like my navigation voice in my car,it tells you things like “turn around” or “in three hundred yards, make a U-turn”  When you don’t pay attention to the voice, it will take you in circles until you eventually have to stop or could hit possible danger head on. The beauty experience-Through the eyes of the beholder

Maureen Sunde ArtworkHave you ever met someone and felt like you could see right through them? It almost seems like you can reflect into there heart , soul and spirit? If you have experienced that, what usually happens is you feel like you know them even though you have never met. An instant connection happens on all different levels. We usually describe as we were just destined to meet for what ever reason. You may even say,“Isn’t that weird?” I don’t think it is weird at all. Some of the most life enhancing human spirit connections are made this way. I don’t believe in coincidences. I believe in destiny. A deeper meaning. Read the rest of this entry »

THE SPIRIT OF PURPOSE AND PASSION

09.29.09

28298_456413929761_793189761_6065617_7432319_sheart-of-fireWhen I was little, my beloved grandpa used to pick my sister and I up on Saturday mornings and take us for rides in his car… Very often he would have an agenda and we would make stops. I have so many memories of quality time spent with him in my youth, and up until he passed away five years ago. My memories are vivid. He always seemed to take the “back roads” though. In his mind it was the short cut or so he said. I used to get so frustrated because it didn’t seem efficient to me or “short” at all…. Young and with a short attention span-especially for things that didn’t interest me-I was clearly missing out. There was an opportunity I seemed to be missing in always wanting to take the freeway. The opportunity I was missing? The purpose of driving! All the things that you can see and discover, along the way. In The freeway doesn’t offer that kind of insight. In Gramp’s mind there was no need for  a car radio when you could whistle your way to a destination. He took whistling to it’s highest form possible. He twurped!

Even though we had no real time-line, Gramp was purpose-driven. We would stop and look at rock stores. My grandpa was passionate about making jewelry. He was all about God, family and rocks. He made jewelry from precious gems and stones. He would grind rocks down and buy settings for them. He was fascinated by rocks and their history. How he knew what was inside of those stones and what he could create once they were open was a mystery to me. To him, it was fascinating. My sister and I would often help him pick out rocks. He valued our opinion. I remember him always talking about African malachite stones. That was his favorite. After, we would often stop at some greasy spoon to talk and eat. Somehow, everyone knew him by name and said hello. He was a “regular” everywhere he went.

My grandfather wasn’t the most outgoing personality, or a man of many words. If I waited for the well of his thoughts long enough, he had a lot to say! I waited. There was a wealth of wisdom and oneness he shared with these stones. His ambition wasn’t really Read the rest of this entry »
